As you encounter an emergency, there are several ways by which the patient can help themselves before arriving at the orthodontist's office.

General Soreness

When you begin to uses braces, it is natural to experience a bit of soreness in your mouth and a sensation of pressure as you bite. We advise patients to alleviate signs of soreness by rinsing the mouth with a salt-water mouth wash. The solution can easily be made by dissolving one teaspoonful of salt in eight ounces of lukewarm water.

Headger

Sometimes, discomfort may be the result of not wearing a headgear as instructed by your orthodontist. We advise our patients to adhere to the instructions specified by the orthodontist. We request to contact our office for further assistance.

Loose Appliance

It is recommended to place wax in case the appliance has become loose or has started to cause discomfort.

Loose Bracket

In case the patient encounters a situation where brackets or band have come off loose, we highly recommend to let it be. Arriving at the orthodontist's office soon enough would help us put them back in place. Please call us immediately and we'd be able to restore your brackets.

Loose Wire

Loose wires are a common issue while wearing braces and they can be easily resolved using simple techniques. We advise using a pair of tweezers or needle-nosed pliers to put your wire back into place. It is also okay to use a piece of floss to tie the wire into place.

Poking Wire

Using a pencil eraser, push the poking wire down or place wax on it so that it is no longer poking.
